  Biography: Mary Grueter was born in Massachusetts sometime after 1875. She was the second surviving child of Bernard GR?TER and Josephine MIETHE. She was probably baptized at Holy Trinity Church in Boston. She graduated from the Holy Trinity Grammar School where she learned to read and write pure German and correct English, taught by the German Franciscan Nuns from Philadelphia. At home, the family spoke the Platt Deutsch dialect of German. Mary worked with her sister Rose at a ribbon store on West St. Mary married Frank Bertsch and they had two children.
