  Biography: Joseph Grueter was born in Massachusetts sometime after 1878. He was the second surviving son of Bernard GR?TER and Josephine MIETHE. He was probably baptized at Holy Trinity Church in Boston. He graduated from the Holy Trinity Grammar School where he learned to read and write pure German and correct English, taught by the German Franciscan Nuns from Philadelphia. At home, the family spoke the Platt Deutsch dialect of German. Joe worked as a freight elevator operator. He never married. He lived to old age. Source: 1.
