| Notes |
- William Lisle was born about 28 November 1818; however this is an estimate. Based on the early census years, it could be about 1817 or 1818. In the book " A Centennial Biographical History of the City of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio", he gives his birth as 8 November 1808 which is clearly not possible given the census data or the date of the marriage of his parents. The year 1812 is on his tombstone. 24 June 1813 from a calculation of his age and from death date from death records of the probate court. That death record gives his age as 88 yr 5 mo 2 days.
William Lisle worked for his Uncle, Robert Lisle. He rented land. After his father died in 1845, he found himself owner of the greater part of the homestead, having purchased the interests of the other heirs. A brother-in-law would not sell, and he forced him off through the courts. He remained on the homestead for 2 yrs., than sold the property to his brothers John and Robert. He purchased the Henry Adams farm in the western part of Prairie Twp. Later, he purchased another 125 acres from George Dugan, and 100 acres later from Mr. Sullivan, and 18 1/2 acres from the Granner farm. At times he added other small unclaimed tracts. He also purchased 28 acres of the Wallace survey and a tract from Squire Cole, which now formed the Lisle Homestead. In 1900 he owned 325 acres.

Hon. James Lisle, M.D.
... William Lisle, father of our subject, was born in Franklin County, Ohio, in 1806, and was reared upon a farm, attending the pioneer schools of those days. [NOTE - William was not born in 1806. Although there seems to be a discrepancy about the date, it seems likely that it was about 1818.]
When a young man he went on foot to the Mississippi River, thence by boat to New Orleans, and from there returned north to Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois. Purchasing a horse at that place he completed the homeward journey on horseback. This extended trip was made with a view to securing another location, but he returned content to make the Buckeye State his permanent home.
Prior to the journey William Lisle had worked by the year at twenty five cents per day. On his return home he married Miss Sarah McWilliams, and settled on rented land ten miles west of Columbus, meantime also tilling his father's farm. After some years spent as a renter, he purchased property, and is now the owner of four farms. The home place consists of over three hundred acres of valuable, well improved land, and is one of the best estates in the county. In early life, while associated with his brother in the livestock business, he twice failed, but since then has been very successful in that department of agriculture.
Politically, William Lisle is a democrat, and for twenty five years served as Township Trustee. He is a believer in the Christian religion, but is not a member of any church. He and his devoted wife have shared each other's joys and lightened each other's sorrows for almost a half century, and are now spending their declining days in quiet retirement. They have had six sons and two daughters, namely Estella, who died in Franklin County; Zadoc, who died at the age of twenty-eight; Osmer, who passed away when three years old; John, a physician of Columbus; our subject; Lewis who is engaged in medical practise at Celina, Ohio; Delia, wife of Harry Hubbard, of Columbus, and George who resides on the home farm.
