  According to David Dunn: Jacob P. Wimsett was born 10 Nov 1840 near Scottland, Edgar County IL and died after 1895 in Caney, Montgomery County KS. He married C. M. Unknown before 1876, probably in Kansas. She was a Native American and was born abt 1834. [The family legend has it that he and his younger brother John were in the Union Army during the Civil War. John became mortally ill, and Jacob deserted and brought him home to die. After that, he re-enlisted in another regiment and never returned to Illinois after the war, instead heading for Kansas or Oklahoma.
